Québec City: request the curb cut before October 1
In Québec City, redoing or even enlarging the driveway of a 1–3 dwelling home takes no certificate. There are two exceptions: a property under a PIIA, cultural heritage rules or the Commission d’urbanisme et de conservation, and the Saint-Charles and Montmorency river watersheds, where every kind of work needs a permit or certificate. Only the City cuts the curb: you request it through 311 from mid-April to October 1, and the work runs from May to early October, at least 10 days after payment. Curb drilling is now banned. A driveway widened after October 1 therefore waits for spring for its curb: we schedule your paving so everything happens in the right order. Another Québec City rule: on at least one portion of the driveway and across its full width, it must sit at least 25 cm above the street pavement.
